A buddy of mine sent me this picture. Found near Cameron, TX along Elm creek. I have never seen anything like it.

My guess is any one of several species of Elaeagnus, perhaps Elaeagnus angustifolia also known as Russian olive.

We have a lot of Russian olives around here and they look nothing like that. Never seen any thing like those. The fish ate them, did he try a bite, what did it taste like ?

Something near a native Prunus doesnt seem right...but somewhere in the Rosacea family...?

Clustered fruit...pairing off at terminals throws me..
Not eleagnus. Ugly agnus blooms fragrant and fruits in fall...covered in bees. Evergreen. The questioned plant is deciduous.
