    What fruit is this?

A buddy of mine sent me this picture. Found near Cameron, TX along Elm creek. I have never seen anything like it.

My guess is any one of several species of Elaeagnus, perhaps Elaeagnus angustifolia also known as Russian olive.

We have a lot of Russian olives around here and they look nothing like that. Never seen any thing like those. The fish ate them, did he try a bite, what did it taste like ?

Something near a native Prunus doesnt seem right...but somewhere in the Rosacea family...?

                      Maybe a native Tupelo...https://www.qdma.com/know-deer-plants-blackgum/
Clustered fruit...pairing off at terminals throws me..

Not eleagnus. Ugly agnus blooms fragrant and fruits in fall...covered in bees. Evergreen. The questioned plant is deciduous.
