    Backpack camping in Texas?

Does anyone know where you can go take a backpack and hike into the woods and pitch a tent for a couple of days? Preferably somewhere not to far from Corpus area(less than 4 hours or so away). Thanks

        Lost Maples
        Pedernales
        Big Bend
        Guadalupe Mountains

Last two are REALLY far, but very much worth it.

Many Texas State Parks have primitive "hike in" camping.
Hill Country State Natural Area and Lost Maples State Natural Area both have primitive camping and are less than 4 hours from Corpus.

I'd go west (and north of the coast) this time of year, to avoid high humidity, and the ability to enjoy summer nights that actually cool down.

No specific spots in mind. I would say Ft. Davis Mountains, but that's a long way from CC.

Ratcliff Lake Recreation Area. The 4 C's trail winds 20 miles into the Davy Crockett National Forest.

Enchanted Rock. Took a scout troop several times on hike in, overnight trips. Everyone loved it.

Colorado Bend has a pretty extensive trail system.

Hill Country SNA is a great place to hike in and camp. Not a whole lot of people visit the place.
