RV / Camping Light

We are goin campin this weekend at Quintana Beach in our travel trailers.

One of SCRIBNER's buddy's told him about some camping lights that he made out of a 5 gallon bucket. Sounded cool to have, so I got busy!

I went to the bucket gettin place and looked at buckets. I cant remember if these are 2.5, 3 or 3.5 gal buckets, but they seemed to be of a good shape for what we were doin, and looked to be easier to store than a 5 gal bucket.

Bucket also had a screw on lid and cost about $5.

Got a clamp light at Stanton's for $9.99. It had a porcelin base and was held together with 2 screws. Thats what I needed.

The cord had a knot in it that had to come out. The wires were soldered in, so I disconnected them by heatin em up with a solderin iron.

I marked the inside of the lid to match the base and drilled 3 holes.

I know. Im not a photographer!

The wires still had a bit of solder on them.

Thread the wires thru the top of the bucket in the center hole. Make sure the base is still on the wires.

The holes still had a bit of solder in them.

Solder the wires back on. No extra solder was needed. Just heat it up and quickly slide the wires in.

Match the holes up and srew the socket back to the base. I got away with using the same screws that came with it.

Screw a 60W buld in the socket.

Screw the lid onto the bucket.

Its not as brite as I thought it would be, but outta be good enuff to see everthing at our camp site.

I will get campin pix this weekend.

If they dont get too hot, I may put a higher wattage bulb in it. I bet some holes in it would help it keep cool and mite make it brighter.

joey, you might wannt try one with the light mounted on the bottom. This way you could remove the lid and have some more directional light if needed.

That's pretty good...i just us a krap load of these. I got them scattered everywhere:
