    Melanistic Buck

This buck was killed on one of the places I hog hunt---I've been hunting a place down the road about a mile for 7-8 years and have never seen or gotten a pic of one like him. My cameras also run 24-7 from Jan-Sep at the place he was killed and no pics there either.

That's awesome. Do they have a special mount planned for it?

I have a couple doe on my place and have been there for years but I have yet to see a buck. The doe are really skittish and rarely come in to corn be it feeder or hand corn

We've got a doe like that on our property that we've watched for the last few years. It'd be cool to get the hide tanned. Click image for larger version

I believe the hunter said a full shoulder mount plus tanning the remainder of the hide.

That is one of the rarest of all abnormalities in the whitetail world. A few years ago I almost got on the Freeman ranch outside of San Marcos. I would have gotten on the place, but they had 10 pages of rules, one being you would be fined $10,000 if you shot a melanistic buck on the ranch. Don’t shoot anything late!

Central Texas has the highest concentration of melanistic deer in the world.
                      Strong populations around San Marcos

We have quite a few melanistic does here in Bulverde. I've never seen a buck. One of the melanistic does had a melanistic fawn a few years ago.

I shot a small 6 pointer that was just like the buck in this post. It was in the late 80's right where the TPC is off 281. We saw several does like it over the years.
