Fake Olive Oils

In the last couple of months I have read a couple of articles about how Americans are getting screwed when we buy Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

After reading this last article > Fake Olive Oils

I noticed the the Kirkland Organic got rated as one of the good ones.
Kirkland is the house brand at the Costco stores.
A 2 litre bottle for $14 is a good price for any decent olive oil

I'm not surprised that companies are trying to do that... Iv never tasted the kirklands brand but i usually go with a 12-14$ bottle. When it comes to anything you buy, you get what you pay for. I usually go with Lucini or another that is in a green can.

Yeah. Its funny because they looked at this in Italy a few years ago, and it was like 75% or more were fake.

The issue in australia wasn't our own oil it was the stuff we imported. That's more because our standards for olive oil were so lax it was legal to import lamp grade oil for human consumption.

Cobram estate olive oil is some of the best commercial stuff you can get. It's aussie made.

There is a book on the topic I read earlier this year called Extra Virgin . Good book.

A buddy of mine has gotten into the business he told me about all the fake oils several years ago. He planted over 10,000 trees on his ranch 5 years ago. He had his first harvest this year.

There's a local place just on the edge of Wimberley that makes olive oil too.

Sure. PM on the way. He is interim president of the Texas Olive oil council (I think). Here is the link.

Texas County Olive Oil is close to my house in Dripping Springs. Cool place, similar to visiting a winery.

Olive oil thread on tbh. Very cool.

Few things I've seen above. Texas olive oil council has been dissolved. It is now the Texas association of olive oil.

JP is spot on about Cobram estate. They now have facilities in the us and produce a very high quality extra virgin oil and a very competitive price. Corto olive oil is another us brand that is readily available and high quality.

Here in Texas, fake oils are everywhere. It's pretty common to see a farm with a couple thousand trees claiming to produce thousands of gallons of oil. Another problem is the infrastructure isn't in place for high production.
I've got a little skin in the game. We farm 150 acres and over 100,000 trees on family ground, and another 500 acres and 250,000 trees for other growers. Fully integrated from tree to bottle with production to prove it. Texana olive ranch on facepage, or texasoliveoilstore.com.
When purchasing make sure they have a chemical and sensory test to prove that it is Extra Virgin, and a harvest date on the bottle.

I think my buddy bought some of his trees from you.

Been going on a long time, In the 1840's Mark Twain wrote about standing on the wharfs at New Orleans, watching barrels of cottonseed oil being loaded into ships. He commented that many fortunes will be made when that oil returns from Europe labeled olive oil.

Olive oil is the #1 most fraudulently sold food on the planet, Honey is number 2.
