Power washed decking and applied some used motor oil with a roller. Thought it turned out well.

Nothing like used motor oil to preserve the wood on trailer boards . Been using it for years.

How well does that hold up? I’m about to replace the boards on my trailer.

Have a Gooseneck trailer that I bought in 2001 still with the original, non treated pine 2x8s. Boards still in great shape. I have rolled on at least 10 gallons of old diesel oil on the boards over the years.

does the oil on it make it slick when wet?

It can be a little slick in spots until all the oil is absorbed into the wood or on a very hot day some off the oil may leach out of the wood a little. It takes a lot of oil to saturate a pine board. I retreated my deck boards last year and very little oil would soak in.

I always apply on a hot day when it stays sunny for a few.

We have a treated floor trailer that's easily 15 years old that's had oil poured into it

I know a couple guys in the oilfield that do it with crude oil cut with diesel. They swear by it.

Regular pine, pressure treated, or does it matter?

Man, this is good info. Seems like my Depression-era granddad would have taught me this little gem, but it's news to me.

This is where I learned this from, Grandpa used to make us brush that stinking oil on all his trailers ever summer when I came to visit. Never realized he was teaching me something useful.
