    20" barrel in 308, 7-08, 6.5cm

If you were shooting a 20" barrel, which caliber would you prefer? Hornady's eld-x looks good in all three but shows data for 24" barrels.

The .308 will be the most efficient.

most manufacturers use longer barrels so they can get higher velocity to advertise.... all three should do well in a 20" barrel

I thought the 6.5 would win....

All have similar case capacities. All will perform equally well. I have a 20” 308, 22” 7-08 amd a 22” 6.5CM. Reloading for all of them, I can use faster burning powders to keep velocities up and velocity loss is minimal.

I had a 20" .308 sold it and had a 20" 7-08 built. And shooting game kings out of both.

Have hunted with 2 of the 3 and shot all. I would go 7-08 and choose Accubond or something other than ELD-X.

Long range bullets excel at just that, long range. Given the 20” barrel I’m guessing you are looking for a hunting bullet for 350’ish and in and a good bonded hunting bullet will provide more reliable results in that area

Probably something to do with the ratio of bore diameter to case capacity
