Between Ruidoso, Cloudcroft and Alamogordo their is plenty to do. Not sure what you are into but there is a ton of hiking, a little fishing and a casino too boot. If you feel like taking a nice, scenic drive you can head over to the solar observatory. The Space Hall of Fame in Alamogordo is cool for the kids.

Good golf courses around too, if you're into that kind of thing. Ponies will still be running at the track. A few good places to eat(Texas Club is good).

That casino will flat suck the money straight out of your pocket. Unless you're very, very lucky.

Make the drive from Ruidoso to Cloudcroft...gorgeous country! We were headed that way this summer but Momma is up for a hip replacement soon so delayed.

              Ruidoso

              Fun trackers for the kids.

              Bring lots of quarters.

                    Try Condotel for rental cabins.

Valley of the Fires, Smokey The Bear museum, White Sands, and up the highway goign north out of Alamogordo (?) there is a site with Indian rock carvings. Also Billie The Kid stuff, Monjeau Lookout (fire tower) where you might see elk/bear at sunrise. There is also an old fort to the north but I can't remember the name.

Three Rivers for the petroglyphs and Ft Stanton for the fort.

We went on year and they were in a drought. Anywhere that you would go to hike or fish was closed due to fire hazard. I do not know there current conditions but you might want to check. We ended up with a lot of time on our hands and nothing to do.

Don't know how old your kids are but the zip lines at Ski Apache are a lot of fun. My daughter and I did them last summer. We rented a cabin thru VRBO at Cloudcroft last year right on the golf course. One of the most relaxing vacations I have been on.
