I suspect it'll be about $800 in steel, the boxes were pre fabbed and ran $900 by themselves for the pair. Time wise we're about 20 shop hours into it so far.

            Sweet build.

How much extra weight is that putting on the chassis... the taco doesn't carry a lot as is. I can't imagine the factory bed being nearly as heavy and well built as yours. You beefing up suspension?

Got some steps on the back fabbed up along with a drop in tailgate. Got her all painted up just now in flat black, she's going to the liner shop tomorrow morning to get bedlined!

We've got it right at 1,000 lbs. That's a considerable amount of weight, but the long bed tacomas can take some weight. We've got air bags going on the truck before installing and I have a 1" block and new shocks on standby if needed.

I overshot the weight a bit, it ended up being 820 lbs. That's only about 500 more than the factory bed, with the air bags that will be no issue at all.

That's very close to the design I have had in mind for a dually bed for a long time! Thanks for putting it in view for me. I have always liked the idea of inset, bed length tool boxes. To me, they make more sense for what I would do with the truck.

So did you say you had someone build those boxes for you?

Rhino lining came out great, it's sitting on the truck now ready to wire up in the morning and go get it cleaned up. The truck squatted about 1.5" when we sat it on there.
