Heat treated the sword last night. A bit of warp, but I think I can get it in the temper.

Have the quench on video but haven't uploaded yet.

Here's the quenching video! Got it in the tempering oven right now, clamped up to deal with a little warpage.

When you don't have a dedicated tempering oven.

Just don’t let momma find out! That Damascus looks great man. I’m working on my first billet also. I wish I had a friend with a power hammer. Hand hammering is killing me.

After finish grinding comes a lot of hand sanding.

Fit up the D guard tonight. Likely handle tomorrow.

Laid it out on paper first. Mild steel bar stock and dykem after that.

Changed the guard shape. Took a long time, but I got a clean block out of an Osage log. Guard is blued.

In the mean time, I can verify that it is sharp.

Superglue, and good to go. Meanwhile, I epoxied the knife up as well. All that'll be left after the glue dries is peening the tang.

I hope you have this in March on your table in Dallas.

Likely. I don't figure there will be that many customers toting that kind of cash at Abilene this weekend.

I saw you come by later with a rifle...

Here are some better pics of this sword.

                                Right side

                                Left side

                                Long and pointy!

                                Handle

Clamshell top guard and peened tang

Here's an original knife in this pattern.

Possibly the greatest individual grouping of an identified Confederate D-Guard Bowie ever assembled. These are wonderful examples of the products made at the former prison in Georgia that was turned into a manufactory or "Georgia Armory".
