Looking for a used 4wd vehicle that is decent (better than my 3/4 ton) on gas. It either needs to be able to haul a 4 wheeler or pull a trailer with one on it. I'm trying to keep the budget at 3K or less, but would pay up to 5k for the right vehicle. I would like to find a vehicle with around 100K miles, as I'm hoping to make it last 2-3 years (I put 20-30K on per year).
I've been looking at Jeep Cherokees, 4 Runners, small pickups (dakotas, rangers, etc.), and have found a few decent deals. Not sure which of these is the most bang for the buck. I know 4 runners have a decent reputation, but most I'm finding in my price range have 200K miles. I owned a 2000 dakota qc, and the mileage was similar to my 3/4 ton. Any suggestions?
