I think it will work just fine the way you originally planned it. I have seen double stacked feeders that were on 3 legs several feet in the air and they weren't too heavy so I don't see why you would have any issue. You could also use black corrugated culvert as your hopper instead of welding barrels together. Cut some treated plywood to fit the bottom and seal it up good and if you buy the right size culvert you could use a slip over lid designed for a drum.

I've seen some on here before with the two barrels side by side and pipe angled together in a "V" with the feeder at the bottom. That way, you only have one feeder but two barrels funneling into it. You might have to raise it all up another foot or so to make this fit. If it's in a squirrel proof cage, you could probably use pvc pipe.

Where is the new Lease Bobby? I don't think there is anything wrong with your idea or the one drawn above. If you are confident in your weld of the two barrels, it should be fine. I don't think weight or height will be an issue.

I'd go with the 85. Ultramatic feeders should have the barrels and lids/funnels to match.

One good thing about the two timers option is you have a good chance that at least one of them will be working for sure.

Why not just get you an 85gal drum? You'll never regret spending a few extra dollars on it.
