      Is that true?
Did the 600 have a different recoil lug than the 700?
They lined up evidently. Gunsmith friend fitted it for me.

I sanded all the knicks and finish off. The checkering was so smooth already I just worked around it. I think normally people strip it out of the checkering. I worked the stock with 100 grit sand paper, then 220, then 320 and 400 wet/sand. Tung oiled, let it dry then 0000 steel wool working the grain. I did this for 5-6 coats and then a final coat of tung oil. Then polished. I know this is not the professional way but for an old gun with minor imperfections already, I'm pleased.

I think it looks great the way it is. You did a great job!!

Good Work .. I put some TLC into 2 rifles I Inherited after my Dad passed ... satisfying work when you shoot it and take some tasty critters.

When I re-finish a stock, I use paint stripper with an old tooth brush .. Be careful not to get this on any synthetic parts area's like the for-end cap .. It will damage it.

Easy fix for a GS with a lathe. Just take half of one thread width off the shoulder. It's called clocking the barrel.
