Upon seeing the photo many people asked "Why didn't you kill it?" #1 Reason - You are FAR more likely to be bitten by a snake while trying to kill it then if you leave it alone (especially when it's in this position!) #2 Reason - It was just hoping for a meal, when it didn't find one (it can't swallow me WHOLE) it would go away... which is exactly what happened.
Snakes are not aggressive, even venomous ones like this adult copperhead prefer to not use their venom for anything other than subduing prey, but will use it for defense if necessary. If this happens to you, stop, take a deep breath and SIT STILL!
