It has been mentioned, but don't skimp on your taxidermy work. It is going to be the only Tangible memory you are going to have of that animal and it's harvest story (other than pictures) for the rest of your life. I know a few folks who can turn out a QUALITY whitetail shoulder mount for around $500-$600 (which is pretty cheap), but I have NEVER seen a taxidermist that charges an economical price for a good bobcat mount. I HAVE seen ones that charge a regular price ($750-$1000) that looked awefull though.
If there is ANY animal in the world that I would do extensive homework on when it came to getting one mounted it would be a cat (either big or little). There just are not many taxidermist that can pull it off. To this day the ONLY cats I have seen that looked good were in pictures (a couple of them on this thread). I have NEVER seen a cat mount in person where I didn't think to myself "what a waste of money".
Interesting. I've never shot a cat because I've never (In person) seen a mounted bobcat that looked....... real. There are a few on this tread that I like! I just may have to pop one next time. Here is one from a few weeks ago.
