    Things to do it Louisiana

We are headed to Destin in the morning and coming back on Wednesday. Is there anything worth doing in the Baton Rouge area? Swamp tours, aquariums, or any must do’s?

If you got the time and patience take the Houma, New Iberia, Lafayette route on your way back. Lil bit mo longer but a nice ride....with a higher chance of finding a legit spot with great food

Lafayette is known for it's food, festivals, culture, and music. Here are some options if you have 3-4 hours to burn: Children's and/or Science Museum (both downtown), tour Avery Island where Tabasco sauce is made (25 min. South on Hwy 90 near New Iberia), Swamp Tours to see alligators and old cypress trees (Henderson area - just before you get on Basin Bridge - 15 miles East of Laffy), visit Acadian Village or Vermillionville which are replicas of Lafayette in the 1800's where the Cajun people settled after their exile/genocide from Nova Scotia, Rock-n-Bowl … downtown on Jefferson St. , more of a adult friendly place to drink, listen to live music, and meet members of the opposite sex who want to bump uglies ,

Baton Rouge - BR has respectable food but sadly not much else from a visitors or tourist standpoint. Bass Pro Shop is 8 miles east of BR on I-12 heading towards Hammond/FLA

Now hang on a minute! With a deficit like that, surely they’re spending some of the money on the roads, right?

Casinos. Stop by and say hi to all the Texans that talk chit about La.. The casinos will be full of them with empty pockets.

They just love leaving their money there

I'd skip BR and get to Lafayette.

                          Good restaurant is Prejeans.

My wife enjoys touring civil war mansions.
There are a couple of good ones near Baton Rouge.
Houma House and Nodaway are the 2 big ones.
Some smaller ones in the area that are pretty interesting too.

Near Baton Rouge is the Port Allen lock. Pretty interesting to see a tug with barges lock into or out of the Mississippi River. Open to the public weekdays.

Just south is the 100 year old historic Plaquemine lock and museum.

Also you can take the ferry across the river to Plaquemine if a ferry boat ride interests you.
