I'm pretty sure if you're being detained you have to identify yourself..........I'm also pretty sure that if an LEO is asking you to identify yourself ,you are being detained.

If you are not suspected of a crime and not being detained. There is no reason for you to have to produce ID.

I'd ask if I'm being detained. If affirmative, then I'll definitely show my ID, if not, then I'll politely pass and walk away. Emphasis on being polite, as I don't want my face to get a concrete scrubbing.
