This hunt was an absolute blast, even with the weather being kind of lousy. I partnered up with Arkie (Nathan) and his boys on Friday. We loaded up into his Samurai and headed out to corn some roads and look around. Our host suggested a blind for the boys to sit in that was set up on a feeder that was getting pounded by hogs and javies. After dropping them off we headed for a pipeline that was promising, and spread lots of corn along it, then headed back to check some spots. We saw a group of javies within a few minutes of corning the pipeline, but the stalks were fruitless once they winded us. Deciding it was best to let the area simmer down a bit, Nathan pointed the Sammy towards the first area we looked at.
Right after turning off the main ranch road we spied a lone Javi, and it was game on.
I made a pretty good stalk on this one, but at the last second it trotted off into the brush, but I could still see it so I readied myself for a shot. Before I could think about it the shot was away. The rain picked up right after the shot, which made the trailing job pretty difficult. We were on blood very quickly, but it petered out within 50 yards and we lost the trail.
