    Mink in texas

I think I saw one in Centerville last week
About 300 yards from a live creek
Anybody else in the Leon co area spotted any

Old country boy who knows the animals of Texas, but this was a nighttime glimpse. But I pretty sure it wasn’t a miniature black panther.

    Thanks

    BP

There were some in Texarkana when I was there. Never trapped one, but I tried.

Mink — The mink (Mustela vison) is found in the eastern half of the state, always near streams, lakes or other water sources. Although it is an economically important fur-bearing animal in the eastern United States, it ranked only 13th in numbers and 9th in economic value to trappers in Texas in 1988-89, according to a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department survey.

All over Lake Livingston. They live in the rocks.

Yep. And used to be a lot of 'em in the Neches river bottom. My grandfather used to trap 'em... Could always tell when he'd been successful too. Dang barn smelled almost like a skunk where he'd been skinning them... Always wondered how such a smelly little animal could be used to produce such beautiful fur clothing for peeps...

Mink are numerous all over east Texas and can become highly concentrated where the habitat can support larger numbers (i.e., fish and crawfish ponds, etc). They are rarely seen but their sign (tracks, trails, scat) can be easily spotted if one knows where to look.

I've seen them around several East Texas lakes.

Thanks for still using Decker Lake...I get confused anytime someone talks about Walter E. Long Lake. Same goes for Town Lake vs. Lady Bird Lake!

Look for tracks and take pics if possible. I think i have some in my live creek in Leon County.
