    Do Cedar Trees Have Value

I have a place with a lot of big mature cedars in the La Grange area. Do they have any value? I’m getting ready to just bull doze them down and burn them.

    Not from my experience.

The big ones not so much- The ones fence post size they will come in and cut and haul off then just take the dozer and push up and burn. Ask at the local feed store if they know any cedar hoppers that may be interested. Wont get much on them but you are going to push with dozer and burn anyway.

Up here in Oklahoma, the state will pay you to cut them down.

Anyone price the cost of cedar now at the lumber yard? Cedar from Canada is up 40%

maybe contact someone who makes the rustic cedar furniture. I bought a big cedar post from a guy who does that very thing and asked him where he gets his cedar. He told me he pays folks in the hill country, drives up there, cuts it down and hauls it back to Houston and uses it to ply his trade

There is not a real lot of value in them, but since you are planning on dozing and burning why not let someone cut them and make a few bucks for yourself. And you’ll still have to doze and burn because there is a special place in hell for Cedar loggers and the mess they leave behind 🤣

They are priceless to allergy specialists and drug companies.

I used to see a cedar oil plant up near junction, who come and cut and clear and then extract the oil from the leftovers, I cannot recall if it’s still in operation or what the process was

Call Pete Chovanec. He makes cedar furniture in Rutersville and he might buy the bigger trees from you. 979-966-2831

There is a company in the Hill Country that uses the stumps to make cedar oil. Spoke to them a few years ago and they paid $20 per ton. I laughed, they said they have people that do it.

I think you are better off just burning.

If they are the big eastern cedar they are worth a little. I cut down several years ago and took them to a cedar mill and made some money but I wished later on that I had planked them out for myself.
