Yes and so is mud cats aka bullheads. Boy, when the river is a rising, and you got a bucket of live bait, you can catch some dandies on a rod and reel.

I've never heard of the notion that green sunfish were bad for ponds.

Grandaddy....these have yellow on their bellies. Is that what they call a yellow cat?

Son.....that's a **** pollywog. Channel cats go on the stringer...Pollywogs get thrown up on the bank.

                But grandaddy...I don't want......

Just do as you are told son..

I'm hoping this is the case....as it would make the most sense after a pond goes dry

Some people have the opinion that because of the larger mouth on the green sunfish, they can fit compete against the bass for food, and possibly eat the bass fry. A full blooded bluegill as a pretty small mouth in relation to the green sunfish.

It would only take a few 10-15 lb flat heads to wipe out an acre pond in a short amount of time. They are heavy eaters and not many ponds could sustain a population of flat heads. Not to mention unless you have a creek or river that overflows to the pond or someone put some in it im not sure how it would have flatheads. Thats just not their native environment.
