    243, 260, 7mm-08, 25-06, 6.5x55, 6.5 creedmoor, 6.5 grendel, 257 roberts

....will all do what you want

All have less recoil than 270 or 308

Savage .270 or .308 both accurate out of the box. I shoot Hornady brand ammo, but that's personal preference.

I'm a fan of the 7mm-08, but ammo can be a bit pricey. 25-06 is a great one also.

I absolutely love 30-06, but probably a bit much for what I'm wanting to do. Knock the predators off, and there might not be a better caliber.

Rem 700 is 25-06 would be hard to beat for that.

              270. I have had mine since I was 16 and now I'm 46. I have killed about everything with it and now my son hints with it

                    Agree

Most bullet options off the shelf make it very versatile

I would go with a little larger of a round just in case you later decide you want to hunt an elk or something large, since you live in Colorado. Look into a .308, 25.06 or 7mm 08. I speak from experience after purchasing a .243 for my first rifle and then having an opportunity to shoot an elk.

The 6.5 family is great middle ground. 260 Rem, 6.5 Creedmoor, etc. More knock down power than the 243 yet still astounding ballistic performance. The recoil is far more moderate than any of the others mentioned. The 260 Rem is my go-to for everything I hunt with a rifle and could not recommend it more highly.
