My buddy swears by mushroom compost at his place in Austin

I haven't tried it but I really like this stuff as a supplement to our compost. I bought a yard of "vegetable garden mix" from Living Earth in Fort Worth that was not great so I've been having a lot in to get it to be a decent soil

          2018 Gardening thread

We started our seeds this past Sunday. Have them in covered starting trays under a red heat lamp in the garden shed now.
Every year we do a salsa garden / canning garden but this year we decided to go 100% heirloom seeds so we can keep seeds and plant from year to year.

          We planted the following:

          purple jalapenos
          jalapenos
          Giant Belgium Pink Tomatoes
          Okra
          Pickling Cucumbers
          tomatillos
          Dill

We will plant cilantro direct to dirt later.

Last year was our first year doing Okra. We only had 4 plants and we couldn't keep up with the production. Can't wait to hone in on those again this year. Lotta lessons learned on those but main one was pick them at no longer than 4" or they get really "woody".

I just added some more mushroom compost to my raised beds. I am just about ready to plant, just waiting on the right time.

$12 a yard with a 3 yard minimum from Kitchen Pride Mushroom farm in Gonzales. Three yards is about 3,000 pounds.

I've always just stuck mine on top of the fridge. Was told it put off enough heat and its worked for me so far

I buy it at $30 a ton at Bryan Asphalt outside of Oakwood. It originally comes from the mushroom operation outside of Madisonville. That price is crazy.

I planted my 1015 onions in November. I will be planting potatoes mid Feb. I will plant corn, cucumber, zucchini, japs, herbs, tomatoes, etc sometime in march.
