    Alfalfa feeder

I was impressed with how the deer went after alfalfa this year. We started feeding alfalfa to bring in the axis in to the feeders. They keep coming through but don't really stop to eat at the feeders. We started feeding alfalfa and the deer just ate it up. I had a couple feeder barrels left over from changing my feeders to wench up style. I had some rebar and decided to make a feeder we could put a bale of alfalfa in that wouldn't get wet.

First is to cut some rebar, 15", made the corners out of 1" angle, welded them like a small box, then addedsome rebar sides. I have some legs I'm going to cut to make this aout 4' off the ground. What do you think ?

I'm going to build something like that. I've just been throwing it on the ground.

Not wanting to hijack your thread but a simple way I use is net wire folded double like taco shell put alafala inside and hang it in trees with baleing wire. deer eat off both sides and it's cheap....downside no weather protection once alafala gets wet deer up there at rio Medina didn't eat it...........Andy

That's why I wanted to use the barrels, it should keep it from getting wet. Hopefully it will be another wet year

Will an alfalfa bale slide into a 55 gal drum?

Perfectly (with the cage below). I have one myself, except mine is a little higher off the ground.

                              Good thinking!
Put it out, put a camera on it, and let us know how it works.
