              I say cotton mouth.

              This is a cotton mouth and you can see the comparison with the one the OP posted. The head/mouth (what we can see of it) and belly pattern are what I used to ID.

                    I think I recall that if you roll it over and check the belly scales between its butt an the tip of the tail, venomous snakes have a single row, where non-venomous have 2 rows of scales aft of the vent.

                        I still say water snake. Someone please go to the link provided and look at the eastern cottonmouths and the come back and point out to us the lack of domino pattern on OP pic. Clear as day to me
