    Civil War short sword WIP

    Because why not

Forged this out at a friend's house the other day, because he has a power hammer. It's like when you have a friend with a bulldozer, you dig a new tank.

Started with a leaf spring off a wrecked Dodge truck.

Hammered a while, till it looked like this.

Spent some time grinding today. Another hour or two worth of grinding, and I will be ready to heat treat. Blade is 20 3/8.

Haven't weighed it yet. Heavier than I want, but a long way to go.

It will be a few weeks minimum before I get back to this project. In the meantime, today I ground out my first 100% independent Damascus blade. I've used the material before, but never made my own. This is some of Aldo's original 1084 from the street factory, and 15n 20, 21 layers.

Exactly two pounds right now. Will lose a little more after finish grinding, and lose some off the tang, but gain a little for the D guard and handle.

Love the Damascus blade. A little phallic there toward the tip.

So I melted out my forge innerds. This put a bit of a crimp on the sword project, but I have an appointment Thursday with a guy who has the equipment to use for heat treat.

In the mean time I finished Damascus blade #1. Also has wrought iron wagon rim from my great great grandfather George Kromer of Spicewood, and a nice piece of curly maple from rubydog.
