here are a couple of my favorite 8 pointers. No idea what they scored, and I've killed some way way bigger, but my boy's first 8 pointers are some I'll never forget.

When an 8pt buck (most common) gets to about 115", people get excited and can't lay off, regardless of age. Go to a locker plant and this is 75% of what you'll see.

Anything that field dresses over 125 lbs is good sized in my book.
          Can't eat them horns anyways.

              I like them mature too...
              this is good

to me any 8 over 125 is pretty good, 130 is a dang good 8, a 140 8 is an outstanding 8. Most will never have the opportunity at a 140" clean 8.

I don't care where you are hunting a free range low fence 8pt that scores over 125 is a big 8 pt and he will look dang big standing in front of you at 20 yards .. your not only losing inches as far as less pts but you lose inches in your last mass measurements and a lot of times the beams are not as long on a 8pt . I would be willing to bet the majority of people that have a shoulder mount in there house it is of a 8pt that does not score 120"

If you decided to shoot him own that he was big enough and be proud of it i say, my criteria is all about age, score is a bonus,

I have always thought that if fit in the deep freeze it was the right size. But I know what your asking. I'll go with 3 yrs old for non "Trophy" hunting like I do, score doesn't really matter to me.
