Bolt hard to close on Rem 700?

This is probably the most likely cause. You would think factory ammo would be SAAMI spec but you never know.

I have only seen 1 Model 700 that could reach the lands at magazine depth......and never in a magnum cartridge.

On newer 700's, both of my older 700's will get to the lands at mag length and one of them is 7 mag

The one I saw it on was a long action from the 1970s.

His is a .300 RUM and they will never reach the lands at magazine length.
