    Kill ranges (bow only)

Just curious how many are actually taking deer at long ranges (with a bow).

List your 3 most recent successful deer kill ranges.

Very similar to yours, these are compound kills. .

      18 yards doe
      15 yards doe
      22 yards buck

Longest shot I ever took I missed. I shot at a mule deer buck in 2006 at 35 yards (ranged). I was shooting a longbow and had practiced to 45 from the suggestion of the guy who took me hunting. I lost focus and shot over it.

          16 yds
          17 yds

However, I don't take shots longer than 20 yds

don't know about whitetail, but was in New Zealand this summer and shot my Red Stag at 40 and Wild Ram at 50. Both spot and stalk. Most whitetail I shoot are under 20 since that is the distance to my feeders Spot and stalk generally necessitates longer shots.

Not macho, just that some animals won't let you get within 20. All depends on the style and animal you are hunting

When I was younger and less experienced, I used to shoot out to around 35 yds. Ended up with a miss, plus some wounded deer. Through my experience, just too much can happen during arrow flight past 20 yds to result in a non-lethal shot. I could probably stretch it out to 25 or so, but I honestly feel most comfortable at 18 yds and in.

Haven't took one yet with my bow but hopefully that changes this yr. If so it will be between 20 and 30 as my feeder is 25 from the blind.
