My wife does not hunt, but won't let me go to Africa without her. She loves it. Our first trip was just hunting, nothing extra. 2nd trip we added a few days so we could do some photo safaris and Elephant rides and predator encounter. On the 3rd trip I was hunting but my wife went with a few other wives in camp and some of the Limcroma staff and they went and walked with lions. She said it was intense because she was actually walking with them. We've done several of the non hunting trips they offer and they have all been great.

$10k should cover you not counting taxidermy. Airfare is the biggest wild card/variance. There are a lot of very reasonable hunting packages out there and a starter safari usually sells very cheap at any safari club auction. The most expensive way to do it is book everything a la carte from the price list.

Isn't there a guy on here that is a site sponsor and has a TBH pkg?
I think it's something like adasonia or andoasia....?

Me and my dad are heading over n September and from the looks of things hunting six species with 6 hunting days we will be in the 10K range by the time we get the trophies stateside but not including taxidermy.

Our flights were a bit more because we did the delta non-stop from Atlanta to Johannesburg. Could have flown cheaper but I couldn't afford the time most of the other flights we 30+ hrs of travel

Thanks for all the info guys. I think we are going to sit down soon and talk real hard about what exactly we want to do. 10-13 is not bad at all

                    Plains game (5) package = ~$5,000
                    Gratuity (if happy) = ~$500
                    Air fare (coach) = ~$1,200
                    Taxidermy = depends...here or there/shoulder or skull

Best part is the whole trip is naturally an installment plan.

Safari Deposit... $1,000 a year before
Air Fare...3 months out...pay off credit card
                    Go Hunting...$4,500 with tip
                    Taxidermy Deposit... $1,000
Balance of taxidermy a year later.

You should go...you deserve it...no regrets.

Only negative is that you won't go just once.

Thanks a bunch that breaks it down pretty good. I’ll be doing the taxi work myself so that’s not an issue but I have heard it cost about $250 an animal to get back. Is that about right

We've had our taxi work done in SA, so I don't have a feel for the cost to prep and ship the hides/horns. We just had several trophies ship and I've been in close contact with the SA taxidermist.

Let me shoot her an email and ask what they charge for prepping and shipping.

Sounds good. In my personal opinion I’d rather have the work done here, say you shoot six animals, they sent you salted hides and the horns. So really the hides will last for quite a while so you could mount three one year and three the next that way you are spending a fortune trying to get them all done at once. Thanks again

This is how I usually do it, which is why I can't go every year. I usually give my deposit a year out and book my flight as soon as possible, usually about 300 days out. That puts about $4-5 K (2 plane tickets) out of the way a year before I leave. I usually use my tax return for that. Then, the next year I pay for the hunt and tips, etc. After that you have about another 6 months or so to get your trophies back and like you said, you can take your time on the taxi work. You can spread your payments for this trip (for all expenses) over a 3 year period pretty easy if you plan.
