          I said I wasn’t going to ask them to let me look in their mouth to tell for certain so I dang sure don’t plan on giving them a rectal exam to find out if they are venemous!

            There are some snakes you should be able to run over with a mower,look at a 5" piece and know what it belonged to. That just happens to be one of those snakes.

                Cottonmouth. Some are solid black that are short and thick and then there these types that can get longer. I’ve seen this type get to 3-4 feet.

                    100% cotton mouth. The tail is short and stumpy. If you want to play with fire because of a specific pattern good luck to you. I've seen them from jet black to having the pattern.

                                OP's pic doesn't show a "stump tail"-- this is a stump tail. However, the zig-zag margins on the saddles are evident.
