    Burrowing owl

    Got this shy little fellow yesterday. He is the reason I drove 3 hrs. Hunting with a camera lens. This was at Anahuac NWR.

      I didn't know they lived anywhere other than a prairie dog town. Cool little critters.

              I think this is an oddity Shane but not sure. It also appears to be a loner. It leaves come spring so I guess he and mrs. take separate vacations.

                I've never seen one in the wild. Guess I need to add that to my photography bucket list. Great pictures!

                        They were everywhere around Tulia when I was growing up. About every other prairie dog mound would have one sitting on it. They're still there, but there are fewer prairie dog towns nowadays. Find prairie dogs, and you'll find all these little owls you want to photograph.
