    Humminbird vs Lowrance

I’m trying to decide between the humminbird helix 5 and the Lowrance hook2-5.

Give me some insight on which y’all prefer?

I'd have to agree from my experience with older units... I just bought a Lowrance Elite-7 but haven't used it yet in actual fishin' conditions.

Other thing to consider is if you plan to use it with your troller for tracking/anchoring, check compatibility with your particular troller...

I have 2 helix 5's on my boat. I really like them. The only thing I regret is not going bigger. I would go 7" or 9" at least. When you have the map on one side and down imaging or side imaging on the the other its kind of small.

The boat isn’t that high tech Charlie. I mainly want the maps and the chart plotter capability.

Whichever unit have go with will have to be compatible with navionics platinum plus.

I’m trying to stay around $400 tops, so the 7 and the 9 are our out of the question.

It will be mounted on the console.

I don't see that this one has GPS capabilities. Does it?

Call Lowrance and ask them if the have any refurbished units. These units are like brand new and have same warranty.

I use Navionics/Platinum+ with my Lowrance... Pretty cool that I can use my iPhone for a second display with the bluetooth link to the Lowrance unit.

Also, check to make sure the lake(s) you want to fish are already included. Maybe consider Garmin echomap too. 1 foot contour maps on a lot of lakes.
