If you want to base how you think about a college football player based on his NFL potential than have at it, but thats a silly way to judge a college player in my opinion. I’m not calling Sam elite but think he’s in the conversation of the best college QBs in 2020.

Hell he would be a much better player if he played on some of those rosters.
Disagree. He has the same abilities regardless. Every program would be happy to have Sam but he's not a game changer. I think that is the basis of this argument to begin with. If he was elite, he would be a determining factor in the national conversation. I think his relevance is more tied to the situation in Austin than his abilities. Just my opinion. We agree on most things, but I don't see Sam as some innovative player

So better players around you don’t elevate ones ability?

No. They may make your numbers better though. Would Sam have more arm strength if he played at Clemson or LSU?

Perception he did with better players making plays. Happens every single year.

                      That doesn't change your tools.

Perception and ability are not even close to the same thing IMO.

Having a strong arm doesn’t make you a great college QB. College football history is littered with dudes that’s didn’t have elite traits but still managed to be elite college QBs.

So are you saying having better players around you don’t inflate numbers?

Did you read the statement? It specifically said having better players around you increases your numbers but not your ability.

It's probably a short list(unless we are talking about option QB's or something). Tim Tebow would be the first one that comes to mind in recent history.
