    RIP boblee

I tracked down our enigmatic friend, boblee, who had gone silent on the greenscreen. Sadly, he passed away from his esophageal cancer in October. I had no idea he was from Hugo, OK. My mother was from that area, and my last living aunt and two cousins live there. I would like to have shared a campfire with him.

Ronald “Ronnie” D. Bates passed away peacefully with his son by his side on Oct. 30, 2018, at the age of 72.

Ronnie was born Sept. 28, 1946, to Joe and Theda Floyd Bates in Hugo, Oklahoma. Ronnie was a unique and extremely wise man. He had a passion for the outdoors, was an expert hunter and fisherman and loved obtaining knowledge and insight from books. Ronnie embraced life to the fullest, and through those life experiences, always had the best stories to tell and was a friend you could turn to for sound advice. He will be dearly missed by those that knew him.

He is survived in death by his daughter, Jennie Marie Bates; son, Jimmy Ray Tucker Bates and wife, Allison; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Terri Wimpee and husband, Rick; and brother, Rick Bates and wife, Terri.

Ronnie is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Theda Bates.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Burkhart Funeral Service in Antlers, Oklahoma.

Local arrangements were under the direction of the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home, 511 W. Main St., Waxahachie, TX 75165.
