He's a 5x3 and has HUGE brows. I am having a hard time deciding if he's a 4 year old or a 5 year old. I know that tine length will hurt his overall score.

If you are serious about managing, I wouldn't shoot that deer. Probably 4 or maybe 5. But would blow slap up next year. What most people don't get is that at 6 the deer body matures and after that all of the growth is in antlers. So mature is relative, to Most a 4 yr. old deer is a shooter, but at 4 a deer hasn't reached his maximum potential in body size and certainly not antler development.

My other thought is he old enoughOriginally posted by stxhunter View PostMost of the pics his legs still look kinda lanky long and lean, making me think he's no older than 4.5. Are you sure he's not 3.5? Hard to tell with the camera that far out.

I get that

It all depends about your specific situation as to what bucks you should pass and let go. When I am deciding whether or not to shoot a deer, it's never "Should I shoot him?". Instead it is, "if whoever is hunting across the fence saw him, would they shoot him?"

The management side of me says the fact that he is 5x3 instead of 4x4 or 5x5 makes him less desirable. But I also understand letting them age in order to reach full potential. That is why I am on the fence.
