Not sure why it's not working

I'm a nutshell it's from North Woods Law. A game warden is talking to a bowhunter. Obviously about a deer he'd shot.

He asked him how far was his shot, the hunter said 10 yards. The game warden said

"Ahhhh, there is your problem, you have to shoot 20-40 yards at least so the arrow has time to build up speed and kinetic energy..... never want to shoot that close"
