    Hill Country Rut is On!!!!

I posted this in response to another thread but wanted to let everyone know what We saw today.

We just drove home from the lease in the hill country today;Llano, Brady, Burnet area and the deer are in full swing rut.

In every other open field we saw bucks chasing doe hard as can be. Both young and mature bucks were out and about. They are not hitting the feeders to eat but are checking them for doe.

    Should continue through next week.

Also arrowed a mature management buck at our lease and he was stinkin! Rear hocks were dark black!

The young bucks in northern San Saba county are just now starting to smell around the does. Older deer aren't paying them any mind. Still got some bucks in bachelor groups.

Just came back to College Station from our land in Hamilton. Saw some nice bucks and a lot of does but no mature bucks feeding or chasing does. Moon was way too bright for much daytime movement.

Western Mason co. still not in the rut or even pre-rut, hocks are still not very stained and rubbing and scrapping is still not there yet, but I'm gonna take some rattling horns this coming weekend.
