Anyone else hunt with a Savage 99?

I just inherited our families model 99 in 300 savage. It was my grandfathers rifle. I killed my first deer with it and my sister learned to shoot with it and killed her first deer with it. I just hung the antlers of the last deer my dad killed. It was with the same 300 savage and that gun is in my safe now.

I purchased a .243 awhile back but have a question. Once you have chamber a round in it and cocked it, how do you uncock it without dry firing it?
