Even when I was a kid in the 90's we had an arsenal of toy firepower. Forget six shooters, we had M16's and Ak's. Video games were a big thing, but I've always told people we were the last generation to play outside.

I saw a young kid outside fishing the other day. I almost stopped to see what was wrong with him,,,,or to congratulate him on being normal.

I live in a neighborhood with tons of kids, been here 4 years and have yet to see a neighborhood baseball game. There is plenty of green space to accommodate with natural backstops. Would have been a dream baseball field for us when I was a kid. But nothing.

My 2 year old plays outside ALOT. And I'm gonna try to keep it that way. Maybe hope is not all lost.

Back in the day I remember my buddy got a nice plastic rifle with a working lever for his birthday. We would play cowboys and indians all day. It was big fun but all I had was a stick. A freaking stick.

Sometimes I think my head is on wrong because of that experience.

We used to play kick ball in the streets, football on the weekend, shot bow and arrows in the front and backyard and ride our bikes around to fish at the local ponds and anywhere we could fish. I grew up without guns but many of my friends dad’s had them hanging in the back window of their trucks. You don’t see any of those things I have listed now a day.

But even then, the bubble gum tasted nasty!

I had the western rifle, and it didn't sound like that. That was when false advertisement was still ok.
