DIY New Mexico Gila Elk
Alright I have a question for the guys who have made the drive to the winston, TorC area of new mexico from the metroplex?? It shows that going through roswell is a little faster but there arent really many towns from Roswell to TorC.
I am thinking of leaving the 13th at 4pm and driving until im tired. Midnight would put me in El Paso and I could stop and get a cheap hotel. One more good night sleep and shower before truck camping the next 10 days. That would put me 2.5 hours from winston.
Or I could drive to Roswell and stay there but then I am 4.5 hours from winston when I wake up the next morning. Or I could drive all the way through and just sleep in the truck. But I dont really see any advantage to that.

I feel like after 3 other elk hunts and my moose hunt I am finally starting to get my gear dialed a little. This is what I carry in my possibles pouch. I have these items with me at all times no matter if I'm day hunting or packing in.
Small first aid kit (bandaids, Advil, Benadryl)
Multi tool
Back up headlamp
Parachord
Matches
Superglue
Back up release
Allen set
Fire starter
Athletic tape
Zip ties
Extra d loop material, broadhead, field tip
All of that goes into a Kifaru pull out

My kill kit like my possibles pouch is pretty simple as well.
Tag bomb(boned out meat bags)
Wire saw(I may get rid of this)
Tyto replaceable blade knife
Extra blades
Ink pen
Latex gloves
Alcohol wipes(not sure why those are in there lol)
All of that is in another kifaru pull out

If you get rid of the wire saw are you going to replace it with a hatchet or what?
