    Black Hills Gold Ammo

Let me start by saying I have not gun hunted deer in many years. I have been invited to my company's corporate lease in Del Rio and they don't allow bow hunting so I need to break out the rifle. I don't have a hunting load for this gun and there is not enough time to work one up. So here is the gun
    GA Precision Crusader
    Caliber:
308 Win, (other calibers custom order)
    Action:
    G.A. Precision Templar® Short Action
    Barrel Type:
Bartlein Stainless Steel 5R Rifling #7 G.A.P. Contour 1:11.25 Twist
    Barrel Length:
23 inches (22 from front of lug)
    Stock:
McMillan A5 in GAP camouflage with 1 stud and 4 flush cups
    Trigger Guard:
Badger Ordnance M5 DBM with one 5rd magazine
    Finish:
    Mil Spec O.D. Cerakote

The ranch also won't allow any target type ammo I am currently using 178 gr A Max
So the closest thing I can find is Black Hills Gold 308 Win. 178Gr. ELD-X ammo
    Any one used this?
I have been told to expect pretty long shots at this ranch not uncommon 350+ yard shots which is not a problem for this gun.
I generally shoot steel with this gun at 700 with no issues.
    thanks in advance

Sounds like an awesome rifle set up! Will you be hunting big body exotics or whitetail?

I'm a big fan of the federal premium gamekings but they are 165gr and POI will be fairly different than your 178gr Hornady. A range trip could get you dialed in with em, gamekings are proven over the years to be very effective, close and long range.

      Both whitetail and exotics.
This gun is not a fan of the 168 gr pills at distance I tried the 168 gr SMK

with the 1:11.25 twist I would look at the 150gr.

The only light bullet i have ever found that would shoot out of this gun was the lapua 155gr scenar and it's a match target. This gun is very picky with bullet length/weight.

I think these may be loaded with Barnes bullets which are solid copper.

I'd take a look at the Fusion 180gr. Easy to find

                    federal

I couldn't find the federal anywhere I looked all over the internet and no one has it yet.
So I ordered the black hills we will see if it is as accurate as the reviews say it is.

                      Did you check the link?

Federal Premium® Edge TLR™ Rifle Ammunition

                      True all-range hunting bullet
Copper shank and lead core retain weight
                      AccuChannel groove minimizes drag
                      Less wind drift and drop
I have gotten good accuracy with Federal ammo in the past, my only complaint with it as a reloader is brass longevity as the brass is usually quite soft and primer pockets often expand in a few rounds.

Out of my 308, my furthest shot on a pig is 364 yards with 165gr Federal Fusions. Have not really needed to swap.

Hornady Precision hunter 178 ELDX should be money in that gun since you already shoot the 178 AMAX (which has been discontinued and replaced with the ELDM/ELDX bullets).
