The Klu Klux Klan and my Family History

I always had a strange feeling about the things that led up to my Grandfather's denial of immigration acceptance to the USA during the 1920s? He and his brother, both from Poland, were denied immigration status to the USA during the early 1920s. They both fled from Poland during Hitler's uprising in Germany, after living and surviving through WWI and the German annihilation of Poland, along the Eastern front of 1914 - 1918. Grandpa's hometown bordered the German and Polish territorial line, Western Poland and Eastern Germany. So many of his family were killed (men) during that war, the onset of WWII and Hitler's rise of power forced his family to push the last two sons to leave in the name of survival.

Grandpa and his brother left Poland, shipping to NY carrying their only belongings to start a new life, landing at Governors Island NY. Both were denied American amnesty and immigration status - reasoning, both were classified Nazis? Grandpa and his brother both knew they now needed to make decisions, one went south to Rio de Janeiro and the other Tampico Mexico. Grandpa went to Mexico and started his life all over again - alone with no family. His brother went to Rio and did likewise...both enduring life through the war, keeping constant touch with family in Poland till war's end. The men, all were killed.... the name...only survived due to these two men.

What I found out this evening.... thanks to the History Channel. I never understood why my Grandfather and his respective brother were denied access to America? I found out, the Klu Klux Klan ruled the immigration system here in the USA during the 1920s, and all Eastern European immigrants were denied access to America period. The Klu Klux Klan were all Democrat and the up and coming, American Mafia where voting Republicans. The KKK supported prohibition and the Mafia busted up prohibition and fully supported the immigration of all from Europe, no segregation and no denials of immigration for any group sourcing from any and or all of Europe.

The battles and relationship between the KKK & the American Mafia (Europeans – Irish, Jewish & Italian\Sicilian) groups was entirely unknown to me. Most in part because, our structured education here in America refuses to educate the masses in what truly happened here in America during these times. The Mafia was extremely instrumental in overthrowing the KKK, and was fueled entirely by the Republican Party.

I’m a first-born American…still trying to find out my past and the reasons why, my forefathers and respective family had to fight and persevere through decades of goodwill, hard work and legal proceedings to eventually become true American citizens? I am the one and only first born here in America. My father and my Grandfathers all come from foreign soils and each had to fight and struggle to become American’s and or survive the wrath of Nazism, Communism and Socialism.

I’m blessed and extremely grateful to be an American!

Thank you Grandpa, Great Grandpa & Dad!

Thank you Lord for giving these men the strength to never give up and the opportunity allow them the chance to become one with this great Nation of America!

God Bless the men and women of my family who perished within the throes of WWI & WWII - We will forever be grateful - GOD BLESS!

    I'm so extremely grateful....AMEN!

That's a good read, Roberto...however sad. I don't understand why parts of history are left out, ugly or not. It seems like something we should pay more attention to. What is it they say "history ignored, is bound to repeat itself".

Am I crazy in thinking you had some kinfolk (on your mom's side perhaps) born up here in Jack County, surname of Roberts? I only ask because my grandfather was a Roberts, also born in Jack County. I need to find out where his dad was born...

Whatever became of the brother who moved to Rio? Did he get here eventually, or do you have contact with anyone in that branch of the family?

That's very interesting, Rob. So, was your dad born in Mexico then? When did your parents come to the US? Did they come to Texas or somewhere else? What's the rest of the story between your grandpa and you today? (If you don't mind sharing....)

                  Cool stuff!

The KKK is wrapped in mystery. Some good, some bad. Were they right, were they wrong? Depends on who you listen to or who you believe. They are a part of history.... good or bad.
