I've been attacked twice over my hunting life by hawks. Both times they were looking right at me and came at me as soon as I blinked. I have no doubt eyes give you away.
I was in a leafy suit and only my eyes exposed. The hawk landed on a limb near me. I was looking at it, and as soon as I blinked it came right for my eyes. I knocked it away with my bow. I think it only saw me blink and thought I was much smaller prey.
For me yes...I avert eyes or just avoid completely.
I just read an older article in Traditional Bowhunter Magazine and one contributor wrote about the “Lost Wallet” technique especially concerning stalking western mulies. Pretty interesting and amusingly effective...for him.
