Why, when you can get a vortex razor HD 1-6 for less than that?

Preferences of ffp or sfp? It seems some of the ffp reticles are extremely small at 1x and aubtensions are almost unreadable, they're a price jump too in most cases.

His budget. German glass/tolerance/quality control worth the money if you re willing to spend it. 300 yards you don't need a 6x zoom.

I'm typically not a FFP fan for the reasons you stated, but I think they may be ideal on rifles used at very close (home defense/predator hunting) ranges, as long as the scope also has an illuminated dot.

At 1x, the "clutter" on the reticle will disappear and you aim using the dot with the wide portions of the duplex reticle drawing your eye to it, like a German #4 reticle. When you zoom in for longer shots, the drop/windage markings appear as needed.

Check the newer Steiner's out also. 30mm tube
The T5Xi 1-5x24 is designed as a close-combat scope. It features a 30 mm tube, 3-Gun Tactical Reticleâ„¢ (3TR) calibrated in 5.56 or 7.62, with true 1x eyes-open capability for situational awareness and 5x power to engage distant targets. Select model 5101 for 5.56 rounds, or 5102 for 7.62 rounds.Included Accessories: Battery, Lens Cloth, Lens Cover, Allen Wrench, Throw Lever

                I'm gonna get a TX5i 5-25X56 for my rifle. It has a 34mm tube.

And I like the built in level in their rings.

Yeah I've been reading more and more about the steiner...it's on the list. Really digging the Leupold vx6 multigun due to it being less than 15oz.

So far Ive been very impressed: Vortex Razon HD Gen II

Ended up getting it for $1,289.96 shipped.

There ain't nothing light about a Vortex Razor HD 1-6.

The VX6 mulitigun is very nice.

Looking closely at the Leupold multigun and Steiner as well, they seem on par with what I'm looking for, Steiner has the advantage in brighter dot, Leupold is lighter and 6x

For the amount you have to spend, this is where I would put my money. The CMR reticle is sweet and with a max 6x power it can reach out with no issues.

The 2-12 is a better hunting optic

I have considered this with offset irons, from what I understand a larger objective will be better for low light transmission
