    Whole home solar.

My electric bill keeps going up. I pay <100.00 for eight months and <150 for four months. Had a ten percent bump last Oct. expecting another 10-12 percent bump this year as the utility is taking some coal fired off line and they have to pay to replace that.

I need 19 230 watt panels to cover my usage.

I expect my expense for the system to be 20k.
I guess it would be a 30% welfare credit but I really need to look into that to see how that works.

I will still have the monthly “service charge” from the utility. But supposedly the extra I don’t need will show up as a credit to use as needed. That will be tracked with a new meter.

Does anyone utilize solar for home usage? Any experience with how the welfare credit works?

Take you 10 years to recover your money then time to start
        replacing old solar panels

Ahh your in NM. Rules are a bit different outside of ERCOT. I would see what it would take to put new windows in and increase insulation / seal drafts. You may find that it’s a better option to do this than solar.

it would be normal that total supply systems will need a total number of square footage of panels to match the square footage under roof. Just consider where and how you would locate and support or mount that amount of panel coverage. Your roof is not likely to point the correct direction for all those panels.

I have itOur system was just under $40,000, before any rebates. In my opinion, not worth it. If I had the panels on rotating polls, with no shadows.....maybe. Our savings on monthly bills are minimal.

I won’t have a sun issue. The panels would be mounted on a ballast and placed on the roof. They would have direct southern exposure.

I just don’t think it is going to be worth it at all for my place.

I don't think it will make financial sense.

Your electric bills are $100, 8 months a year and $150 the other 4?

                          Am I reading that right???

I would count my blessings if my bills were that low.

I think you will be much higher than 20K, more like 30K and still won't cut your bill 100%. At best maybe 50%. The numbers....

                            Current yealy....1400.00
                            Projected savings yearly....700.00
                            Cost 30000.00 - 9000.00 Tax saving= 21000
21000/700= 30 years to recover initial investment.
If you add in repairs and maint.......to dang long.
