Went back after it cooled down and put the lid panel in the frame. Couldn't stain the frame first because I have to sand the glue lines any way.
I didn't get a pic yet but I did make the relief on the panel to raise it but it still came out flush, still looks pretty good though
Will get done this week as the heat is supposed to drop down into the lower 90s instead of triple digits

This served two purposes, 1. Give her a gift and 2. let me brush up on some needed skills.

The build is 44" long by 24" wide by 34" tall. The cedar for this was from trees that I cut and brought to the mill. The frame is Red oak that I bought. I really wanted to make it completely out of cedar but by the time I finished running all the boards through the planner the cedar was only 1/2" thick and I was concerned it wouldn't be sturdy enough to stand the test of time.

The cedar is all tongue and grooved, all but the middle rails on the oak frame is mortis and tennen jointed, I then put the 4 sides together with a bisquit joint.
That is going to be one of the nicest cedar chests of all time.

Got the lid to the cedar chest sanded down and the first side of the oak stained.

Nice! Looks great! You put poly on the oak? It looks glossy.

                            Getting close
Got a little touch up on some stain where the painters tape reacted with it and finish the sliding tray on the inside that she wanted but I'm pretty pleased with it.Click image for larger version
