The beans and peas are getting browsed pretty good amongst the croton.

The deer are absolutely hammering the durana ever since I mowed it. Over 500 pictures in 3 weeks.
You can see the nipped off ends.

They are even bedding in it right in front of the camera. The does are about ready to pop.

The corn/milo doesn't really add much protein to their diet but I hoped it would help protect the beans/peas. The jury is still out on that so far.

I'm very impressed with the Durana cover so far. The does are fattening up on it right now. I have maybe a quarter acre planted in durana but its doing great under the browse pressure.

I know. My son loves 'em.....I hate 'em. He would rather shoot a hog than a big buck any day. Surprisingly they don't destroy the plots.

They are fun as heck to shoot though. KAP!

Went to my place to water the Chinkapin Oaks and check the plots.

What a disappointment.......my neighbor left a fence gap open and the cattle just destroyed it. I mean everything......peas/beans/milo/corn. I am pi55ed right now.

The field formerly known as clover...

This field was lush with clover three weeks ago. Now it looks like I nuked it with gly.

The chinkapins are doing well and the place has good fawn crop cover.

                        I hate 'em. KAC!!!

My neighbor is a heck of a good guy but I'm gonna lock that gap up tight. These food plots are too valuable and too hard to grow to let a friggin' cow eat it!

The screen I planted for the plots is up but need some rain badly. Egyptian wheat is supposed to grow 9-12 feet tall.

How about an update man? This is one of my favorite threads. I hope that plot is recovering from the cows.

Yeah man, I love this thread.

How's that "throw and grow" doing?

                              Comment

Sorry about the lack of updates. Once the cows ate them it was toast. We had only .85" of rain in the last 5 weeks so everything is looking bad. The milo, peas, and corn never bounced back. The clover should green up once it gets rain and some cooler temps

I havent been out there in almost a month because of work and vacation.

I'm gonna start buying fall seed as soon as I can get some.....elbon rye, oats, more clover, radishes, and something new this year....kale. I have it in my garden and its very prolific and is hard to kill. I'm gonna try a pound of it for about 1/3 acre.

Overall the lesson I learned from no plow is that smaller seeds work best and fall is better than spring to do it.
