I am confuddled also. Not sure what the OP means by favorite Texas country song. A song by a Texan or a song about Texas or both? Many of the singers mentioned are not Texas, as pointed out below:

As for me, there is no way to narrow it down to one. George Jones, Ray Price, Ernest Tubbs, Jim Reeves, George Strait, Willie, Waylon and so on...

        The Preacher - Cory Morrow

Some of y'all have no idea what Texas Country/Music is.

Apparently it just has to have the word Texas somewhere in the song

He just put on a bad A show at the Red Dirt BBQ Festival. PG still jams!
I was in my second year at SHSU that year and TX music was at its peak as far as I'm concerned. Pat Green was king then, but he sucks now as bad as he said Nashville did. LOL

I'm going with 'Amarillo By Morning' by the real king as well. I never get tired of listening to that song.

Ragweed, Boland and the Great Divide all came/moved to Texas years ago to achieve fame. All major players in the TEXAS MUSIC scene. They all still live around New Braunfels.

George Strait was NEVER a major part of the Texas scene. He is Nashville.

Reckless Kelly originally hail from Stanley Idaho. They have been a part of the Texas scene for 15+ years. There is no Idaho scene. They advertise as Reckless Kelly, Austin, Tx.

I’m with BOB on this one. I was informed by a cute little bartender at Gruene hall boland isn’t Texas country.

I can’t pick one but back home in Texas by Casey Donahew gets played any time I cross back over the state line.
