My brother found a raccoon doing that. He caught it and took it to the vet. It had rabies.

I was watching an episode of North Woods Law.
They was a Moose doing that. They say it was a brain worm.
            They put it down

We’ve killed two rabid skunks on our place in the last three weeks (confirmed positive via testing.)
We were told this has been a particularly bad year for rabies because it’s been so dry, which concentrates animals around water and food sources.

I doubt that it was rabies.
Not impossible but very improbable. A lot of folks think that opossums are immune to rabies and while they are not, something with their body temperature makes them like 10 times less likely to have rabies. That virus cant live at the temps the opossums body operates at

Saw that with a squirrel one time--we killed it and took it to be checked and it turned out to be Distemper.

Doesn't cost anything to report it. Some poor animal control officer is sitting around with nothing better to do.

That is strange. I’d lean towards a recent head injury as well. The possum looks healthy, other than the whole spinning around thing. If he was that far along with rabies I’d expect him to look worse than he does

Looking on the internet it seems that this is a pretty common “uncommon” behavior

I have a golden retriever puppy that does that, but at a much faster clip! [emoji23] She is so fast she can catch her tail though!
